I used embroidery as a way to challenge the conventional art of photography. It shows my personal feelings through the contrast between the cold atmosphere and soft tactile. I was worried that looked monastic, but I was relieved when one of my peers commented my work communicated “a slow kind of sadness” that they felt. Also, one of them said it reminded them a book for children that they like and I was happy that they noted my zine in a good way. I referred to Saul Leiter’s works because his pictures expressed the loneliness in city with blurry view and weathers(ex: snowy, rainy, and cloudy). Surprisingly, my tutor commented my photos looked similar to Saul Leiter’s one, so I guessed I expressed my personal feelings (ex: isolation and sadness) in my work well as he did. Through this project, I realised the reason why we need to way how to face the canons with showing the errors beautifully in the pictures. After this project, I’ll add explanation in the zine after hearing feedback from my peers. And add more colour and convey my joy in the park, I’ll use warm-coloured threads like yellow and orange in my work. Additionally, I’ll explore other ways to depict errors in the pictures, beyond just using a blurry effect.
